³º Description : º ³
³º º ³
³º After their less than stellar sophomore effort, º ³
³º Rage called it quits, however it didn't even º ³
³º take a whole year before Peter "Peavey" Wagner º ³
³º rethought his choice to disband. He basically º ³
³º recreated Rage from square one, writing a brand º ³
³º new set of songs being played by new band mates. º ³
³º The result is Rage's best album, and a true º ³
³º underground staple. It is worth mentioning that º ³
³º the creature on the cover art looks like a º ³
³º robotic xenomorph, and it doesn't get much more º ³
³º badass than that! º ³
³º º ³
³º The songs found here take classic metal and º ³
³º inject it with speed and a healthy does of power º ³
³º metal. The result is a real oddity, the album º ³
³º has a very signature sound. The sound is º ³
³º consistent throughout this record, which is º ³
³º either a positive or negative depending on how º ³
³º you view it and your preference. For me, this º ³
³º makes the album feel more focused, and thus a º ³
³º good thing. Peter Wagner provides vocals for º ³
³º Rage, and they are a real highlight here. He is º ³
³º able to hit quite high notes, and deliver them º ³
³º with a considerable amount of power behind them. º ³
³º This is what adds the power metal vibe to the º ³
³º album, and for me is arguably the bands biggest º ³
³º positive. Wagner also provides bass work that is º ³
³º an important part of compositions on this disk. º ³
³º º ³
³º Guitarist Manni Schmidt also is a real treat. º ³
³º Schmidt is extraordinary at guitar, a real º ³
³º genius. His solos throughout have a real sense º ³
³º of scale and meaning to them. Plus they are º ³
³º absolute shredfests. His solos are of constantly º ³
³º good quality on this album, even on the weaker º ³
³º songs. This helps hold the weaker tunes together º ³
³º and keeps them form seriously derailing the º ³
³º album. Drumming provided by Chris Efthimiadis is º ³
³º very good, although Rage would later come to º ³
³º have superior drummers in its ranks. Still, º ³
³º Chris does a good job here. He knows when to º ³
³º fill and come to the forefront of the songs and º ³
³º when to take a back seat to the rest of the º ³
³º band. Along with this, he has a fair amount of º ³
³º technical skill, enough to get the job done. º ³
³º º ³
³º It would be hard to mention this album without º ³
³º mentioning how much stronger the first 3/4 of º ³
³º the album are. Not that the last quarter is full º ³
³º of bad songs, but similar to what Pantera did, º ³
³º they shoved the weaker tunes to the end of the º ³
³º album, hoping the strong songs' momentum would º ³
³º carry the last part of the album. However, º ³
³º unlike most Pantera releases, it works quite º ³
³º well here. After such a string of good songs, º ³
³º the less than stellar end doesn't feel that º ³
³º major, nor does it feel like it takes away from º ³
³º the album as a whole. They maintain the same º ³
³º sound as the rest of the album, so the flow and º ³
³º feel of the album is still maintained through º ³
³º these weaker tunes. º ³
³º º ³
³º I feel fans of classic, power, and speed metal º ³
³º will find this album entertaining. Power and º ³
³º classic metal fans I believe though will get º ³
³º more from the album than the speed fans, º ³
³º although there's enough speed here to keep them º ³
³º entertained. Any guitarist or vocalist will º ³
³º appreciate the sheer technical talent on display º ³
³º here in a way others can not. It is worth the º ³
³º money, and a real underground great. º ³
