Û As usual, here we are in 2015, and we are Û
Û unearthing a few 2014 releases worth your time. Û
Û Amid the many 2014 releases I overlooked is this Û
Û album I randomly downloaded amid all of the Û
Û digital promos we get sent having no idea about Û
Û the band at all. But the internet helped me out… Û
Û Apparently, despite being around since 2001 this Û
Û is only the second album from Austria’s Û
Û Misanthropic Might, (they released their debut Û
Û Misanthropic War over a decade ago) who shares Û
Û members with death metal act Parental Advisory. Û
Û But it’s a pretty damn good effort of Dark Û
Û Funeral-ish wall of noise, razor sharp, slightly Û
Û melodic black metal furor, that also has some Û
Û early Cradle of Filth riffs and high pitched Û
Û screams, just minus the Gothic bullshit. Û
Û Don’t let the COF comparison fool you, it’s only Û
Û in the shrieks, a few deep bellows and fierce Û
Û blasts, as the DF reference is pretty dominating, Û
Û I actually thought third track “Doomsday” was a Û
Û cover song from Secrets of the Black Arts, being a Û
Û dead ringer for the albums opening track (which of Û
Û course could be wholly intentional). And the album Û
Û is littered with many frosty, tremolo picked icy Û
Û blasts that will make you shiver, making for a Û
Û pretty under that radar release that fans of the Û
Û style should check out. Û
Û Along with the aforementioned “Doomsday”, the Û
Û likes of “Fallen Kingdom”, delivered with perfect Û
Û control and pacing amid the vitriol, and utterly Û
Û blistering, personal favorite, “Human Scum”, which Û
Û even hints at a sort of Zyklon like, mechanical Û
Û death metal intensity, the album , even at 46 Û
Û minutes, is a force to be reckoned with. And while Û
Û the 8 songs are pretty long for this style, it Û
Û never loses steam and shows just enough variety Û
Û (i.e some melodic leads in closer “Becoming the Û
Û Misanthrope”, some movie samples) to hold your Û
Û interest, and be a black metal band I will be Û
Û keeping an eye on, assuming they don’t wait Û
Û another 10 years. Û
