³º thrash metal? Hell yeah! And what an album! This º ³
³º is something so weird that is even so difficult º ³
³º to image, also referring to the results…in 1985 º ³
³º Venom are at the top for their music and lots of º ³
³º group decided to embrace those sonorities that º ³
³º were fresh air in a continue musical evolution. º ³
³º Exorcist too took this road and decided to mix º ³
³º heavy metal, speed influences and horror music. º ³
³º º ³
³º Useless to say how much I love these sonorities, º ³
³º when the production was perfect for the rituals º ³
³º in a desolated forest and the music was really º ³
³º something extreme for the period. We are not º ³
³º talking about the sheer, malevolent assault of º ³
³º an album like Seven Churches that was put out in º ³
³º the same year, but Exorcist’s music is always º ³
³º able to be scary and violent at the same time. º ³
³º Sometimes they reminded me a bit the very first º ³
³º Onslaught on their debut Power From Hell. The º ³
³º sounds are more or less the same as the way the º ³
³º music was played. º ³
³º º ³
³º There are some scary intros between the songs º ³
³º and the music is based on Venom patterns with º ³
³º lots of the speed metal influences to result º ³
³º faster like in “Burnt Offering”. The solos are º ³
³º in pure early Slayer style, as the sound is very º ³
³º similar too. Furthermore, the vocals are really º ³
³º extreme for the period, on the borderline º ³
³º between early Sodom (but less screamed) and the º ³
³º classic Cronos’ rough tonality. During the º ³
³º slower songs like “Possessed” and “Black Mass”, º ³
³º the sulphur atmosphere grows and you can really º ³
³º imagine to take part to strange rituals. º ³
³º º ³
³º During the horror atmosphere and the scary but º ³
³º melodic refrains, sometimes they are so similar º ³
³º to the Italian legends Death SS. Basically, the º ³
³º influences were the same: classic metal/doom º ³
³º music and horror influences. This album is one º ³
³º of those things that really capture the º ³
³º intensity and the atmosphere of those, forever º ³
³º gone, years where few things were enough to make º ³
³º a really obscure album that surely sounds more º ³
³º vicious and sincere than most of the black º ³
³º albums nowadays. º ³
³º º ³
³º You can think that the titles of the songs were º ³
³º immature or childish. Maybe. But in that period º ³
³º were far ahead for this music, because it was a º ³
³º new think and from now on everybody would have º ³
³º been inspired by this image and lyrics. All in º ³
³º all, a must for any lover of this magic, dark º ³
³º sonorities that bring you back to the 80s, with º ³
³º nostalgia but with pleasure too. º ³
