Het verhaal is gebasseerd op ware feiten. Charly Matteï (Jean Reno) heeft jarenlang bij de maffia gezeten in Marseille. Nadat hij uit de maffia is gestapt, wordt hij door de maffia neergeschoten met 22 kogels. Charly overleeft wonder boven wonder de aanslag op zijn leven en gaat op zoek naar Tony Zacchia (Kad Merad) om wraak te nemen.
