Û Sadly, I am reading all too often these days about Û
Û bands that have such amazing potential, but threw Û
Û in the towel WAAAAAY too early. This is a fate Û
Û that has befallen many bands, especially great Û
Û ones from the 80's, and even newer generation Û
Û bands like Wisconsin's Aphotic, and now these Û
Û guys. Released in March of 2014 after putting out Û
Û three demos in one year, this band threw in the Û
Û towel a month or two after this album hit the Û
Û shelves. Û
Û And what an album it is! It's doom metal to be Û
Û sure, complete with a rather unique voice that Û
Û isn't too high or low (but can reach some dark and Û
Û doomy depths at one place on 'Night Of The Wolf Û
Û Moon'). Soaring vocal work is to be found Û
Û throughout, and you'll be singing the choruses to Û
Û quite a few of these cuts in no time. And they Û
Û aren't afraid to break the doom metal mold either; Û
Û these tracks don't always crawl along and doom Û
Û dance on your face! Still, what cuts the points Û
Û mightily is that out of 7 songs, with a very short Û
Û running time of 39 minutes (quite unheard of in Û
Û the doom metal realm), there's THREE Û
Û INSTRUMENTALS!!! Your standard intro, still nice, Û
Û and midway through a 7 minute piece called 'Galaxy Û
Û Lifter' which contains interesting shredding (a Û
Û doom metal "guitar hero" track?) and psychedelic Û
Û Hammond organ sounds. Your final instrumental Û
Û contains some spoken word passages, which may not Û
Û count as "instrumental" to some, though daring to Û
Û combine pianos with acoustic guitars and then Û
Û adding flutes to the mix is a rather bold move Û
Û that works well. Û
Û Axe work is superb. Whether they're channeling the Û
Û spirit of Bruce Franklin with some nasty and heavy Û
Û guitar bite that Trouble themselves have "trouble" Û
Û managing these days (excuse the pun), or showing Û
Û off their love of Scott Wino era Spirit Caravan Û
Û (what the cut 'Black Flames And Shadows' reminds Û
Û me of), it's obvious that this band brings a LOT Û
Û of diversity to the table, MUCH more than many Û
Û bands in this genre can muster... And it's only Û
Û their first (and sadly, only) full length! Sad to Û
Û see another bright, promising hopeful up and leave Û
Û the scene, because I dare say with such innovation Û
Û and diversity, this band could be headed onto Û
Û brighter and much larger things... Û
