Sportdrama met Sandra Bullock over een straatarme jongen, die door zijn talenten wordt opgenomen in een landelijk football team.

De film vertelt het waargebeurde verhaal van Micheal Oher (Quinton Aaron), een jonge, dakloze Afro-Amerikaanse jongen. Michael wordt op een avond opgemerkt door Leigh Anne Touhy (Sandra Bullock) en omdat hij geen slaapplaats heeft biedt Leigh Anne hem onderdak aan. Dit zet een serie gebeurtenissen in gang die het leven van zowel Michael als die van de familie Touhy voorgoed zal veranderen...
