ÛÛ The Metal Observer Review : ÛÛ
ÛÛ Prophecies Of Pagan Fire is a hoot, it rockets along with ÛÛ
ÛÛ an occasional Thrash accentuation and leaves us charged ÛÛ
ÛÛ for the day. Swathes of guitar daisycut along ÛÛ
ÛÛ back-slapping the constant battery of the drums whilst ÛÛ
ÛÛ lightning bolts of lead solos cauterise the tears where ÛÛ
ÛÛ all this tumult tries to burst out from. Predominantly ÛÛ
ÛÛ fast and certainly relentless, this album contains all ÛÛ
ÛÛ manner of contrivances to prevent staleness creeping in, ÛÛ
ÛÛ tedium is kept at bay by the sparse use of atmospheric ÛÛ
ÛÛ keyboard such as on "Under The Holocaust" where they add ÛÛ
ÛÛ an imperious air. Slower passages, though few and far ÛÛ
ÛÛ between, give a chance for a quick breather before all ÛÛ
ÛÛ hell breaks loose again and the band aren't afraid to use ÛÛ
ÛÛ the odd semi acoustic motif if the moment needs it. ÛÛ
ÛÛ Whilst Enthroned are not ground breaking, they are ÛÛ
ÛÛ distinctive in their sound. They have an engaging, you ÛÛ
ÛÛ might say "warm" guitar tone which actually adds a ÛÛ
ÛÛ claustrophobic aspect to the rush and rumble. ÛÛ
ÛÛ Those drums certainly have a sense of the apocalyptic ÛÛ
ÛÛ about them, there is an organic feel to them, quite ÛÛ
ÛÛ evident in these days of mechanical sounding percussion. ÛÛ
ÛÛ Though they clatter and blast, there is plenty of rolling ÛÛ
ÛÛ and none of the kit is left out. No one can complain ÛÛ
ÛÛ about the lack of audible bass either, it grumbles ÛÛ
ÛÛ incessantly throughout, well to the fore ÛÛ
ÛÛ Distinct from other bands lumped into the speed merchant ÛÛ
ÛÛ bracket, Enthroned tracks are quite lengthy when compared ÛÛ
ÛÛ to someone like Marduk. The band manage to hold interest ÛÛ
ÛÛ throughout, adopting some traditional Metal effects and ÛÛ
ÛÛ beefing them up before weaving them into the fabric of ÛÛ
ÛÛ the song. Catchiness plays its part as well, this horde ÛÛ
ÛÛ could be a drag net trawler scooping all in its path. "At ÛÛ
ÛÛ The Dawn Of A Funeral Winter" despite the dodgy title ÛÛ
ÛÛ sweeps you along with some gloriously infectious riff ÛÛ
ÛÛ work as well as some inviting uncomplicated keyboard ÛÛ
ÛÛ embellishment. ÛÛ
ÛÛ So, whilst Enthroned do not have the depth of some other ÛÛ
ÛÛ bands, it has to be said that we all know of scene ÛÛ
ÛÛ luminaries that have excited us and yet ultimately left ÛÛ
ÛÛ us disappointed. ÛÛ
