            Û  So South Korea’s Fallen Angel’s productions has     Û
            Û  been around since 2010, and based on my recent      Û
            Û  package from them, they have a pretty distinct      Û
            Û  niche for international, simple, middle ground, lo  Û
            Û  fi black metal (Pest, Elffor, Dark Plague,          Û
            Û  Kvalvaag, Skoll, Krigerewolf, Catacumba) and even   Û
            Û  some home grown nihilism (Taekaury), but one of     Û
            Û  the bands more recent releases, breaks the mold a   Û
            Û  bit; the debut from Norway’s Wendigo. And of        Û
            Û  course it’s a style I really don’t ‘get’. Good ol’  Û
            Û  black/thrash.                                       Û
            Û  That said, new act Wendigo ( the side project of    Û
            Û  label mate Kvalvaag and vocalist Jon Henning), go   Û
            Û  on and do their thing with aplomb. Gritty,          Û
            Û  gravelly guitars with gritty gravelly vocals        Û
            Û  rasping about all manner of horror and              Û
            Û  cannibalistic themes (duh, Wendigo), I even get a   Û
            Û  little odor of Necrophagia’s horror based metal in  Û
            Û  here to (check out the keyboards that close out     Û
            Û  “Cannibal Ritual”). It’s nasty, it’s primal and     Û
            Û  its equal parts black sheen and thrash/punk sneer.  Û
            Û  It’s not a game changer and its not going to make   Û
            Û  me a fan of the genre, but like say, Gravehill or   Û
            Û  Craven Idol, there’s a snarly feral energy that     Û
            Û  cant be denied. For example the mid paced “The      Û
            Û  Anthropophagist” has a steady, menacing throb and   Û
            Û  rumble that’s hard to ignore and the fierce         Û
            Û  following track “Serpent Master”, actually kicks a  Û
            Û  little ass, while “Wendigo Psychosis” is a pretty   Û
            Û  fun romping thrasher (as is 7th track “Human        Û
            Û  Flesh”).                                            Û
            Û  The 80s horror movie score/vibe/keys returns for    Û
            Û  the 5 minute “Fear (Is Big Business)” and 6 minute  Û
            Û  plodder “Live Lobotomy” before the outro “Ending”   Û
            Û  complete the album with a spooky piano close out.   Û
            Û  I’ve heard worse black thrash albums, and while     Û
            Û  not really my thing, this things is pretty solid    Û
            Û  and a nice little album from Fallen Angels          Û
            Û  Productions amid some pretty mediocre stuff.        Û
