³º Pardon the pun, but here's Stormwitch another º ³
³º German metal band who's recent history has been º ³
³º more stormy. The band had a rather vigorous out º ³
³º between 1984 and 1994 with seven albums in ten º ³
³º years, but then fell silent. Two more albums º ³
³º came in the early 2000's, with only more silence º ³
³º from the studio to follow. Eleven years later º ³
³º the band returns with Season of the Witch. º ³
³º º ³
³º Stormwitch is another band that revisits º ³
³º traditional heavy metal, essentially a German º ³
³º version of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. º ³
³º There's a sound mixture of moderate paced heavy º ³
³º metal with the faster side of speed metal, a º ³
³º common characteristic of the genre. As are the º ³
³º twin guitars for riffs, rhythm, and leads. º ³
³º Original member and vocalist Andy Mück has a º ³
³º natural clean metal style. Yet, because of the º ³
³º not so lucid production, his voice takes a º ³
³º beating from the music. That, or at 50 something º ³
³º his pipes aren't what they used to be. º ³
³º º ³
³º Overall, Season of the Witch is an adequate º ³
³º album of classic heavy metal. In the best sense, º ³
³º it truly does capture the spirit of the genre º ³
³º and history. Alternatively, as much as I love º ³
³º the genre and have been part of the history, I º ³
³º found the album rather uneventful and º ³
³º uninteresting. Nothing really inspired me or º ³
³º leapt from the speakers in such a way that º ³
³º really intrigued me. I can say I enjoyed some º ³
³º songs better than others: Harper In The Wind for º ³
³º it's melody and guitar lines, and Runescape as a º ³
³º lighter metal anthem. Considering specific º ³
³º elements, the guitar lines are likely the best º ³
³º part of the album. But, what respectable classic º ³
³º heavy metal album would not have decent lead º ³
³º guitar solos. So, in the end, I guess I'm simply º ³
³º ambivalent about Season of the Witch. (And the º ³
³º label may be ambivalent too, considering the º ³
³º shitty quality of the album art it authorized.) º ³
³º Yet, I'm sure Stormwitch's long time German fans º ³
³º will dig it, and they should. º ³
