            Û  "Roads to Judah", is a hypnotic thirty eight        Û
            Û  minute plunge into hazy musical darkness. A         Û
            Û  dizzying hybrid of Shoe-gaze shimmer, Hardcore      Û
            Û  vulnerability, and Black Metal intensity.           Û
            Û                                                      Û
            Û  From the opening drone of the album it's as if we   Û
            Û  are are peering through a dream into the private    Û
            Û  world that is Deafheaven's "Roads to Judah".        Û
            Û  Layers and layers of instrumentation build, tangle  Û
            Û  and swirl before the real onslaught begins. A       Û
            Û  ferocious drum fill then thrusts us from the        Û
            Û  serene into a free fall, as if the ground below     Û
            Û  suddenly gave way. From there we plummet through    Û
            Û  one awe inducing sonic fog into the next, blurring  Û
            Û  the traditional lines of song. Hyper blasts of      Û
            Û  speed rage and pulse while lush guitars bellow,     Û
            Û  roar and whine with unorthodox melody. And just as  Û
            Û  we feel we've departed from reality from the aural  Û
            Û  overload, tortured vocals cry out from afar.        Û
            Û  Serving as a stark reminder that there is           Û
            Û  something very human about "Roads to Judah" and     Û
            Û  Deafheaven themselves.                              Û

            Û  Though the title could suggest something            Û
            Û  otherworldly, the "Judah" referenced is in fact     Û
            Û  the "N Judah" train, the busiest line of the San    Û
            Û  Francisco transit system. A relatable landmark to   Û
            Û  compliment the haunting ambiguity that surrounds    Û
            Û  Deafheaven and the music that they collectively     Û
            Û  create. On it, much of the lyrical writing and      Û
            Û  personal reflection for this album took place.      Û

            Û  With that said, "Roads to Judah" isn't Heavy Metal  Û
            Û  role play, but a beautifully blackened artistic     Û
            Û  exploration of the issues and self loathing that    Û
            Û  can cloud every day life. A stunning a achievement  Û
