            Û  This is the first demo from Demonthrone. The sound  Û
            Û  on this demo is slightly dirty, as it should be,    Û
            Û  with a good dose of distortion. The rhythm guitars  Û
            Û  & bass have a lot of low-end and plenty of crunch,  Û
            Û  and the leads are much higher, which lends the      Û
            Û  record a great classic thrash feel. I really like   Û
            Û  the dry drum sound -- it sets off the rest of the   Û
            Û  instruments perfectly, and the drums are exactly    Û
            Û  where they ought to be in the mix. The vocals are   Û
            Û  snarled, somewhat like early Sodom or Bathory.      Û
            Û  This is a great choice that's very appropriate to   Û
            Û  the music.                                          Û
            Û  In terms of song structure, "Angel Slayer" offers   Û
            Û  nothing but thrashing, rumbling, old-school death   Û
            Û  metal. There are tons of wild, unpredictable        Û
            Û  solos, which add plenty of interest and variety to  Û
            Û  the proceedings. Most of the songs are at about     Û
            Û  the same tempo: not too fast, and not too slow,     Û
            Û  very much in the style of the earliest death metal  Û
            Û  bands. Occasional slower breaks or faster           Û
            Û  thrashing passages break things up a bit, and       Û
            Û  there are a few songs that break the mold           Û
            Û  entirely. Those who crave speed will like the       Û
            Û  raging "Surgery on Prisoners", while "Cryptfiend"   Û
            Û  slows down for a bit of slow, bassy, Hellhammerish  Û
            Û  metal.                                              Û
            Û  "Angel Slayer" is quite impressive for a first      Û
            Û  demo, with solid songwriting and plenty of          Û
            Û  aggression. At more than 35 minutes of quality      Û
            Û  metal, it's practically a full-length record        Û
            Û  available at demo-tape prices! Fans of              Û
            Û  Nunslaughter, Gravewurm, Warhorde, and the like     Û
            Û  should definitely get this tape. Recommended.       Û
