Boney M Albums
Collection 1976-2017

Boney M. is een van oorsprong Duitse discogroep die bijzonder 
succesvol was in de jaren zeventig. De groep werd gecreëerd 
door producer Frank Farian in 1975 en bestond uit vier West-In-
dische artiesten uit Engeland, Duitsland en Nederland: zangeres-
sen Marcia Barrett en Liz Mitchell, model Maizie Williams en de 
in 2010 overleden dj Bobby Farrell. Boney M is bekend van de 
mix van blanke en zwarte muziek; de producer Farian is blank en 
de zangers zijn zwart. Daarbij hebben veel nummers een zwarte 
(emancipatoire) achtergrond, zoals No more chain gang van het 
album Oceans Of Fantasy. Boney M werd, samen met ABBA, een 
van de weinige westerse bands die ook succes behaalden buiten 
Europa en de VS, met name in landen als India en Sri Lanka. De 
groep kende diverse bezettingswissellingen en viel na 1992 uit-
een in drie formaties die ieder rond een voormalig groepslid zijn 
geformeerd. Later zouden dat vier formaties worden. Hierbij mag 
worden aangemerkt dat de formatie met lead zangeres Liz Mit-
chell als officiële erkend wordt en internationaal het meest suc-
cesvol is. Liz Mitchell heeft als enige voormalig lid de officiële 
autorisatie van Frank Farian, die alle rechten omtrent Boney M. 
bezit, om op te treden onder de naam Boney M. en zij kan als 
enige de Boney M. sound live tot leven brengen vanwege haar 
grote vocale inbreng en herkenbare stemgeluid. Als tegenpresta-
tie blijft zij beschikbaar voor Frank Farian voor promotie van 
Boney M. releases en nieuwe Boney M. opnames zoals in 1992 
("Stories"), 1994 (4 nieuwe tracks op de compilatie "More Gold") 
en 2005 ("A Moment Of Love").
